The Sourdough Edit

I'm a little late to the game, but 2025 is the year of sourdough for me. After a few bumps (starter gone bad and a faulty scale) I think I'm finally getting to a place where I'm going to see some decent results from my bakes soon!

In honor of the occasion, here's my roundup of sourdough tools and accessories! Most of these are wishlist items, especially the chambray Le Creuset, but the scale is one of my recent purchases and I highly recommend one for measuring and feeding your starter and loaves!

1. A glass jar with a lid for starter that can be left ajar for rising is ideal!

2. A lame for scoring beautiful designs in your loaves!

3. For those who don't have a stand mixer and plan to work their dough by hand, a Danish dough whisk might come in handy!

4. Bannetons are used to keep the shape of round loaves as well as oblong batards during the proofing phase.

5. The star of this roundup, this Le Creuset enameled Dutch oven in Chambray--the perfect blue I've been dreaming of!

6. A must for maintaining the perfect balance of ingredients for a healthy starter and successful loaves: a digital kitchen scale.

7. If you're not a 'find recipes on the internet' type, here's a book that will cover everything you need to know about sourdough.

8. Oven mitts to coordinate with that gorgeous Dutch oven? Yes, please!

9. Handy for both shaping loaves and maneuvering dough, a bench scraper can serve a third purpose as a cleaning tool!

Bon voyage and bon appétit on your sourdough adventures!

Xx, Lydia
